Description

The car was originally purchased new by Mr. J.E Nilsson in Halmstad. At the time, he was 63 years old. Until 1999, the car only had 3000 kilometers on the clock, as noted in the accompanying service records. After that, we don't have information about the owners until 2015 when the car was sold by a Volvo collector living in Sigtuna. The car then went through a Swedish intermediary to Germany. The Swedish registration number PKD214 ceased when the car was registered in Germany. The German owner liked their Volvo 240 and took good care of it. In 2021, the owner moved from Germany to Sweden and brought the car along. It was then re-registered in the Swedish vehicle registry. This time, the Volvo received the registration number EUY34S. The odometer currently reads 136 000 km, but the correct mileage should be 149 000 km (as per the owner's account). An instruction manual, warranty certificate, a copy of the old registration certificate, and a binder with documentation are included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Equipped with a B230FD engine and a five-speed gearbox. The timing belt and water pump were replaced in 2018. We test drove it for a long distance when moving it to our depot. The engine runs smoothly, the steering is firm and precise, and it drives straight and smoothly on the road. No unusual noises. Fixed and smooth gear shifts. (See the owner's account for more information)

  • Interior condition:

Nice interior with only minor wear and tear. The driver's seat is in good condition with firm and comfortable padding. The plastic around the door handles is cracked on some doors. See pictures. Equipped with an airbag on the driver's side.

  • Exterior condition:

Original paintwork with some imperfections. The Volvo 240 Classic had a clear coat layer from the factory. With age, the clear coat often deteriorates, as is the case with this example. However, the clear coat degradation is limited to the roof and the left rear fender. See the pictures. The rest of the body has held up well. There's a dent in the right rear fender, just in front of the taillight, and a few small dents in the tailgate. Otherwise, there are normal stone chips, scratches, and imperfections for its age. Overall, it gives a good impression externally. It has the correct "krysseker" wheels that were fitted to the Classic. Here, they are equipped with so-called all-weather tires.

  • General condition:

Good overall impression with some minor visual remarks. Functions well as a nice daily driver or potential future collector's classic.

Owner's comment

I have always liked Volvo, especially the 240. I got help buying this car in Sweden and importing it to Germany. Since I now live in Sweden, I brought the car here in 2021 and had it re-registered in Sweden. I have always maintained the car and invested in whatever was needed. Among which, I mention the following: In 2015, installation of a cold start regulator (required by the German vehicle inspection during import). Gearbox oil change in 2015 at 127,500 km, new taillights in 2016, half set exhaust system replacement in 2016 at 128,000 km, fuel pressure regulator in 2017 at 133,000 km. Timing belt, water pump, and all belts replaced in 2018 at 135,000 km. Alternator replaced in 2018 at 135,000 km. New starter battery and new ball joints in 2020 at 136,900 km. New brake pads and discs front in 2021 at 140,000 km. Completely new clutch in 2022. Idle control valve cleaned and odometer repaired in 2023 at 147,000 km. Currently, the car has barely covered 149,000 km. The odometer broke when I pressed the button on the trip meter, and I later had it repaired. Therefore, the odometer reads 136,000 km, but the correct mileage is 149,000 km.

Facts about the model

Volvo 240 Classic was an anniversary model built in only 3000 units during the final months before the production of the 240 model ceased, which occurred in May 1993. The 240 Classic is recognizable by the emblem on the tailgate and a woodgrain trim on the dashboard, as well as painted chrome accents around the grille and above the headlights. Additionally, these cars were only available in two colors, medium blue and wine red metallic, and featured the special "krysseker" wheels called Scorpius.
